Electrical Inspector License

The Electrical Inspector License is required of persons engaged in electrical inspections performed on a City of Philadelphia Electrical Permit for a licensed Electrical Inspection Agency. This license must be renewed annually.

REVIEW TITLE 9-1305 FOR FULL LICENSE DETAIL.

Persons employed as an Electrical Inspector must work for a licensed Electrical Inspection Agency. This license does not authorize the operation of a business.

Eligibility Requirements

  • PA Department of Labor and Industry certification as an Electrical Inspector.
  •  Experience
    • Minimum of six (6) years employment performing electrical work for a company licensed through a local or State jurisdiction. Proof of experience shall be in the form of one or more of the following:
      • Tax records reflecting employment by a licensed Electrical Contractor.
      • Proof of licensure through a local or State jurisdiction, subject to approval by the Department.
    • Satisfactory completion of two (2) years education in the electrical field shall be equivalent to one (1) year practical experience. Education may be substituted for no more than four (4) years of practical experience.
  • Continuing Education Credits
  • Photo ID
    • 2”x2” photo ID (passport quality).

Renewal Requirements

  • Proof of at least twelve (12) hours of coursework in NFPA 70, earned during the previous license period.

Fee(s)

  • Initial Application
    • There is a non-refundable application filing fee of $60.00, which is not included in the license fee. The total license fee of $100.00 is due upon application approval.
  • License Renewal Application
    • $100.00
RETURNED CHECKS: If your check is returned unpaid for insufficient or uncollected funds, (1) you authorize The City of Philadelphia or its agent to make a one-time electronic fund transfer from your account to collect a fee of $20; and (2) The City of Philadelphia or its agent may re-present your check electronically to your depository institution for payment.
