Non-Profit Groups

Non-profit organizations are tax exempt organizations with an altruistic mission. There are many different types of non-profit organizations.  Large organizations like the United Way or Big Brothers, Big Sisters, to small groups like your local animal shelter or chambers of commerce, are all types of non-profits.

Although a non-profit is operated like a business, owners of a non-profit do not collect any profits from the organization. Profits must be committed back to fulfilling the mission of the non-profit.

If you are a registered nonprofit organization, you will need to apply for a Non-Profit Activity license through the eClipse system. Please note that you are required to provide proof of nonprofit status before obtaining this license.

What is a Non-Profit?

A nonprofit is an organization that uses its surplus revenues to further achieve its purpose or mission, rather than distributing its surplus income to the organization's directors as profit. When starting a nonprofit, you must first be able to clarify what you intend to accomplish with a mission statement. The mission statement describes the overall purpose of the organization. It addresses the question "Why does the organization exist?"
