Fire Alarm Inspector’s License

Fire Alarm Systems Inspector License

This license is required of persons who inspect, test, and certify fire alarm systems for conformance to the Philadelphia Code. This license must be renewed annually.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Business Income and Receipts Tax ID
  • Commercial Activity License
    • Proof of employment must be provided if an employee of the company.
  • Proof of Qualifications (based upon one of the following)
    • NICET Alternative
      • Submit a National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certificate at Level II or higher in the fire alarms subfield of Fire Protection Engineering Technology.
    • Underwriters’ Laboratory (UL) Alternative
      • The company for which the applicant is principal or designee is listed with UL in one of two categories of Protective Signaling Services. The first acceptable category is for Central Station Service (UUFX) as a “Full Service Company” or “Fire Alarm Service — Local Company.” The second acceptable category is for Local, Auxiliary, Remote Station and Proprietary Service (UUJS).
    • Professional Engineer Alternative
      • A professional engineer registered in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A signed and sealed statement must be provided with qualifications in the field of fire alarm systems.
  • Photo ID
    • 2”x2” photo ID (passport quality)

Renewal Requirements

  • Must be current on the payment of all City of Philadelphia taxes.
  • Submission of current NICET certificate, if applicable.

Fee(s)

  • Initial Application
    • There is a non-refundable application filing fee of $100.00, which is applied towards the cost of the License ($225.00). The balance of the license fee is due upon application approval.
  • License Renewal Application
    • The renewal fee is $225.00

Payment Information

RETURNED CHECKS: If your check is returned unpaid for insufficient or uncollected funds, (1) you authorize The City of Philadelphia or its agent to make a one-time electronic fund transfer from your account to collect a fee of $20; and (2) The City of Philadelphia or its agent may re-present your check electronically to your depository institution for payment.
