This license is required to maintain a weights and measures device for commercial purposes or use an electronic scanner or similar automated device to ascertain the price of an item presented for checkout.
Additional Information:
- This license is required for each location where weighing and measuring devices or electronic scanners are utilized.
- A weighing or measuring device is considered a load rack meter or a scale.
- A viewing screen must be provided at the electronic scanner checkout which will enable the customer to see the price of each item as it is recorded by the scanner.

Additionally, if you operate a gas station or distribute fuel you are required to obtain a Retail Motor Fuel Dispenser License ($200 fee).

RETURNED CHECKS: If your check is returned unpaid for insufficient or uncollected funds, (1) you authorize The City of Philadelphia or its agent to make a one-time electronic fund transfer from your account to collect a fee of $20; and (2) The City of Philadelphia or its agent may re-present your check electronically to your depository institution for payment.
