Special Inspection Agency License

The Special Inspector license is required of persons engaged in special inspections as defined in Chapter 17 of the Philadelphia Building Code and performed on a City of Philadelphia Construction Permit.

The Special Inspection Agency shall employ one (1) or more licensed Special Inspectors or maintain current accreditation from an established accreditation agency that has been approved by the Department.

This license must be renewed every three years.

Note: The associated Special Inspector licenses must be issued before the Special Inspection Agency license application can be submitted unless filing as an Accredited Agency.

 

Eligibility Requirements

Note: All insurance must be submitted on a Certificate of Liability.

  •  Identification of all Special Inspectors employed by the company

Or

Proof of Accreditation in named categories

  • Identification of at least one supervisor who is a registered design professional or a registered special inspector in the requested categories.
    • The supervisor may not be retained by another Special Inspection Agency
  • An engineer-in-training, geologist-in training, or supplemental inspector must work under the direct supervision of a licensed PA Professional Engineer registered in relevant inspection categories.

Note: An Accredited Agency is not required to name a supervisor.

Renewal Requirements

  • Must be current on the payment of all City of Philadelphia taxes.
  • Current Accreditation, if applicable.

Fee(s)

  • Initial Application
    • There is a non-refundable application filing fee of $20.00, which is applied towards the cost of the license ($200). The balance of the license fee is due upon approval of the application.
  • License Renewal Application
    • $200.00

Payment Information

RETURNED CHECKS: If your check is returned unpaid for insufficient or uncollected funds, (1) you authorize The City of Philadelphia or its agent to make a one-time electronic fund transfer from your account to collect a fee of $20; and (2) The City of Philadelphia or its agent may re-present your check electronically to your depository institution for payment.
